We have approximately 1000 purebred and partbred Akhal-Tekes in North America, many competing in a wide variety of sports. There is public awareness of the breed like never before, with several national magazine articles published in 2012, a breed information program on national television and more and more people choosing to buy an Akhal-Teke or Akhal-Teke cross. There are breed performance awards, breeder websites and lots and lots of gorgeous pictures by talented photographers, and now there is a unified place for breeders, owners and enthusiasts to gather, to give and get information, to register horses and to build the future of the Akhal-Teke in North America.
The Akhal-Teke Association of America was formed in 1982 by Phil Case, the first to import purebreds into North America, and has been maintained in continuous operation since then, including maintenance of the registry. Our goal is to continue developing a durable organization that will accommodate the growing numbers involved in the Akhal-Teke breed, with a focus on providing professional support for members and maintaining an inclusive environment. We serve breeders and owners of purebreds and partbreds, as well as those who are simply in love with the Akhal-Teke.
